A few years ago, I was drowning. I was desperate to find my purpose, to feel significant. And in the process, I made some critical mistakes.

First, I said yes to just about every opportunity that came my way. If I don’t feel significant, I reasoned, it must be because I’m not doing enough. But constantly adding more to my to-do list only made me feel stressed and drained—the opposite of what I was striving for.

Second, I let the world define significance for me. And the world says that you have to be BIG to be significant. You need big numbers, whether that’s a lot of money, a lot of friends, or a lot of fame. And as a stay-at-home mom to three little kids, I didn’t seem to have enough of any of those.

Do either of those sound familiar? In your search for meaning and purpose, are you finding yourself overwhelmed but still falling short? Let me assure you, friend: there is a better way.

After my youngest son was diagnosed with Down syndrome, I realized that God had created him exactly as he is, on purpose, for a purpose. And then I realized the same was true for my other kids… and for me… and for you.

So one morning, armed with my Bible and some much-needed quiet time, I sat down and asked God to help me find His purpose for me. That morning I created what I jokingly call my manifesto. It is a document that serves as a reminder that I don’t need to do Big, Important Things to be significant—I just need to be who God created me to be. It also helps me to make better decisions and set better goals, because I can easily say no to things that don’t fit God’s purpose for me. It has been a GAME CHANGER, my friend.
